| Meet
the SF&C Board
SF&C is composed of citizen volunteers who donate their time and efforts as
board members to furthering the goals of the organization. We are a diverse
mix of local community members and area farmers who share a vision of
supporting and promoting local agriculture in mid-Missouri.
Dan Kuebler,
chairperson, has been
a resident of Columbia, Missouri for the past 30 years. He has been both an
organic vegetable grower and board member of the Columbia Farmers' Market,
Inc. throughout the 1990's. In 1998 he helped found SF&C, which is committed
to establishing and managing a permanent Farmers Market Community Center in
Columbia which will serve the urban and rural members of the Mid-Missouri
region. Dan grew up in the small Missouri town of Hermann and learned to
garden, preserve food, and cook with the love and guidance of his parents.
He attended the University of Missouri and has been a registered Physical
Therapist since 1975. He has his own physical therapy practice in Fulton,
Missouri which serves the home health population of Calloway County.

Guy Clark served for ten years on the
board of the Columbia Farmers’ Market including five years as president of
the board. He grew up with the traditional childhood experience of forced
labor in the family gardens. Guy left the gardens for academia and a stint
in New York City. While living there he worked at Angelica Traditional Herbs
and Spices and The Good Food Coop. He decided to come back to earth and
returned to Central Missouri in 1991. He has been operating
Fertile
Crescent Farms ever since.

Ellen Dugger, treasurer, has been a resident of Columbia since 1972 and an employee at Family Counseling Center of Missouri since 1990. Her natural tendency toward all things detail lead her to volunteer to be on the board of SFC as their treasurer. Ellen developed a love of farmers markets as a patron of the Madison, Wisconsin market. She enjoys finding local markets when she travels. She believes in growing the local economy by supporting local businesses and farmers. Ellen also values the social aspects of regularly shopping at farmers markets. They are an excellent way to bring the community together, develop friendships, get to know our food producers, and become more aware of the politics of our food production. And as a person for whom cooking has never been a passion, it is really important to be able to buy fresh, healthy food that naturally tastes good!
Liz Graznak
is a Columbia native. She moved away to attend college and grad school,
living in many different places for about a 10 year period, before finding
her way back to Missouri. She farmed for a couple of years with various
different people before accepting a job at Superior Garden Center where she
is now the General Manager. She and her partner recently purchased a farm
in Moniteau Co. and will definitely be returning as a grower to the Columbia
Farmer's Market in the near future. Liz has been a member of the SF&C board
for almost 2 years and is thrilled that Columbia will finally have a central
market location that will add a wonderful centralized meeting spot to the
community.
Danielle Eldred is entering her third year with the CARE Gallery,
the main arts related component of the overall CARE Program (Career
Awareness Related Experience), which teaches work and life skills to at-risk
teenagers. As the Gallery Coordinator, she facilitates and plans all
aspects of the gallery programming. She was the main facilitator of an
after-school and weekend workshop on animation in October-November 2005 and
2006 resulting in a number of student documentaries being shown to a
national audience at the 2006 True/False Film Festival in Columbia. Although
Danielle has traveled extensively both nationally and internationally, she
has called Columbia home for 27 years. She has been a patron of the
Farmer's Market for years and has become a healthier, happier consumer
because of its presence. She started volunteering at the information café
in 2005 and became a Sustainable Farms and Communities (SF&C) board member
in the winter of 2007. She believes that a Farmers' Market Community Center
will promote positive changes in the strength and wellbeing of the community
by providing an outlet for information and goods that encourage healthy
lifestyle choices.
Carri Risner is a former local restaurant owner who knows her way
around the kitchen. With experience working in restaurants and bakeries in
Boston, Chicago, Cape Cod, and here in Columbia, Ms. Risner has been lucky
enough to work with some of America's finest chefs. She refined her talents
at her own restaurant, le Petit Bouchon. Locally, she has also created
original desserts for local dining hot-spots such as Addison's and Sophia's.
Until this past year, Carri was a selling member of the Columbia Farmers
Market with an emphasis on artisan-style breads and heirloom vegetables. For
a portion of her years with the Market, she also served on the Board of
Directors as Treasurer. A graduate of Newbury College with a degree in
Culinary Arts, Carri Risner is currently sharing her passion for food with
local high school students as a Chef Instructor at the Columbia Area Career
Center.
Victoria Day
has served as the Volunteer Coordinator for
the SF&C Board
since 2003. She
and her daughter Saxon have lived in Columbia for almost ten years, and have been
active supporters of the Columbia Farmers' Market for most of that time. Victoria is a firm believer that every choice we make is a
form of political action and her support of vendors who provide quality,
organic, diverse produce is a reflection of that philosophy. She
especially enjoys working with
the people who volunteer their time to make the Information Café and the
Columbia Farmers’ Market the dynamic, personable, thriving community that it
is.

Eric Reuter (nee Butler)
has a strong interest in using the internet to help individuals, small
businesses, and community organizations reach a wider audience more
effectively, and currently serves as SFC's webmaster. He moved to Missouri
in 2006 with the intention of starting a local produce farm and becoming
more deeply involved in the sustainable farming and living movement. He has
a background in geology and teaching, and has been involved in science
education at the middle school, high school, and college levels, as well as
several stints as a geologist and interpreter for the National Park Service.
Eric is also a member of the Columbia Farmers Market, where he sells
produce, culinary herbs, and wildflowers. He was elected to the board of CFM

Chris Matthews was born and raised in rural
Northwest Missouri. Chris served in the Air Force and recently retired from
the Missouri Air National Guard after 22 years. He found his passion for
sustainable agriculture while completing his degree in agriculture at MU. He
presently works at the University of Missouri in Extension by helping local
producers get their products into local schools and communities. He feels
strongly about the connection between the community and local agriculture,
and feels that it's important for youth to know how and where their food is
produced. Chris is presently working on his graduate degree at MU in
agricultural education. Chris and his wife Kris and their two children live
in Columbia.
