Interested in eating locally produced food?

Wondering whether Missouri could feed itself?

Want to learn more about our region?

Celebrate spring by eating green! Join us in April for a weekend event that explores and celebrates our diverse local food supplies in mid-Missouri. Imagine a weekend filled with delicious meals such as Asparagus Frittata, Asian Radish and Spinach Salad, and Lamb Stew made with Spring Vegetables and locally-brewed Flat Branch Beer.  Help Sustainable Farms and Communities, Slow Food Katy Trail, Columbia Farmers Market, and Inside Columbia magazine kick off the growing season with a weekend local food challenge.

Browse this site to learn about the value of local foods, guidelines for the Spring Challenge, and more. Please register for the event; your participation helps demonstrate the value of local food supplies in Columbia and the surrounding region.

Plan to attend our closing event, the Taste of Columbia local foods potluck at Stephens Lake Park on Sunday afternoon, April 27. Meet other participants in the Challenge, enjoy a broad range of locally-sourced dishes, and celebrate our farms and food supplies!

Did you know? The 2007 Columbia Localvore Challenge was recently awarded "Best Marketing Idea" for 2007 by the Missouri Farmers Market Association and AgriMissouri! We look forward to building on that success in 2008, with both a spring event and the annual weeklong Challenge in September.
