The Columbia Localvore Challenge is a cooperative effort by three area groups with an interest in promoting local foods and agriculture. Visit their web sites to learn more, and feel free to contact them.

Sustainable Farms & Communities -
Sustainable Farms & Communities is a non-profit group that supports local community by fostering economic development through education about food and farming. Affiliated with the Columbia Farmers Market, its current focus is on fundraising for the Farmers Market Community Center, a permanent pavilion to house the market and other community events. This project will allow the market to continue growing and supporting more local farmers, and will provide Columbia residents an ever-widening array of local food products throughout the seasons.

Columbia Farmers Market -
The Columbia Farmers Market is the largest in the area, hosting over 40 vendors offering the best in fresh, locally produced produce, fruit, meat, eggs, and more. As a producers-only market, all goods were grown or produced by the person selling them, offering customers an extra assurance of freshness and quality. The market is open Saturdays 8-12 a.m. and Mondays and Wednesdays 4-6 p.m. behind the city Activities & Recreation Center on the corner of Clinkscales & Ash.

Slow Food Katy Trail -
Slow Food promotes conviviality, hospitality, taste education, biodiversity of the food supply, and the appreciation and preservation of multi-cultural food traditions. We envision a future food system that is based on the principles of high quality and taste, environmental sustainability, and social justice – in essence, a food system that is good, clean, and fair. We seek to catalyze a broad cultural shift away from the destructive effects of an industrial food system and fast life; toward the regenerative cultural, social and economic benefits of a sustainable food system, regional food traditions, the pleasures of the table, and a slower and more harmonious rhythm of life.
